Opis
The Karawanks are the longest Slovenian mountains. Their ridge with the highest peak of Stol (2236 m) are towed 120 km far from Tarvisio to Slovenj Gradec. Together with the Zillian and Carnian Alps, they form the Drava mountain group. Karavanke, along with the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, form a natural dividing line between Austrian Carinthia and Gorenjska. Through Karavanke crossings, important trade routes take place between Western and South-Eastern Europe. One of them is also Ljubelj (1370 m), which is more than 300 years old and should be one of the first road passes in Europe, and the other the passage of the Seeberg-Sattel pass. Today under the Karavanke the motorway tunnel connects Ljubljana with the Villach in Austria. The tunnel was created in parallel with the original railway tunnel. A large number of mountain huts offer plenty of opportunities for hikers. Many peaks feature a beautiful view of Klagenfurt and its surroundings, as well as the Ljubljana valley
